Nevada Lillie

This is a transcription of a handwritten document prepared in December, 1952 by Nina (Barendrick) Shiffer.

Little is known of the background of Nevada (Vade) Lillie.  We know he was of English parentage and was born in the State of Nevada on April 2nd, 1861.  He had at least one brother and several sisters, but as he had a stepfather, it is not positive whether these were full or half sisters.

He married Josephine Bouzer and they had seven children.  He drove the stage between Yakima and The Dalles, later becoming a prosperous farmer.

Vade Lillie was quite a sportsman, especially interested in horse races.  He did not drink or smoke, but had a weakness for women which led to his divorce from Josephine.

He later married Nell Faulkner (she was the family governess! – WHB) and died a poor man.  He is buried in Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima.
